What is the Divine Mercy Chaplet?

The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a relatively recent but profoundly impactful devotion in the Catholic Church. Given to St. Faustina Kowalska in the 1930s through a series of visions and revelations, the Chaplet is a prayer of mercy, forgiveness, and trust in God’s infinite love. St. Faustina, often called the Apostle of Divine Mercy, was entrusted with the mission of spreading the message of God’s boundless mercy to the world.

Prayed on ordinary rosary beads, the Divine Mercy Chaplet is simple yet powerful. The Chaplet begins with the Sign of the Cross, followed by one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and the Apostles’ Creed. The heart of the Chaplet is the repeated prayer: “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world,” which is recited on each of the ten beads in each of the five decades. The Chaplet concludes with the threefold plea, “Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”
